Tromsø Storm har første kamp søndag 26. september hjemme i Tromsøhallen mot Ammerud. Vi vil presentere spillerene i årets Storm-stall fremover mot første kamp – i dag er det en av våre nye amerikanske importer Rasheed Allen Worrell;

Forward, 203 cm, 25 år

Tankene går tilbake til første gang vi møtte Ron Timus. Vi hentet ham til Norge uten helt å vite hva slags kar som kom.  Men Ron var et fyrverkeri av en spiller som etter tiden i Bærums Verk også spilte i Tromsø (også i den mye omtalte 5. finalen i 2011). Omtrent sånn har det vært å bli kjent med Rasheed. Følelser, guts og masse spilleglede i samme pakke. Vi kommuniserte frem og tilbake på Whatsapp, og det slo meg at han like ofte spurte om Tromsø, byen og naturen, som han ville vite om laget og basketball. Nå er han på plass, og har imponert på flere måter, på banen og utenfor banen. Han klarte navnene på medspillerne på rekordtid, og han har funnet seg til rette i Tromsø uten problemer.  Noen syntes kanskje det var vel optimistisk å dra til turnering i Bergen med bare slippers, uten sokker, men han hadde tilsynelatende full kontroll, og mener selv han har vært ute en vinternatt før. Bokstavelig talt. Gi ham amerikansk peanøttsmør og flytende honning så er det meste greit!

En drømmehelg UTEN basketball:
A dream weekend without basketball for me is a weekend in beautiful Pensacola Florida, USA with both my biological family, my adoptive family, and select teammates and friends from over the years that are scattered around the world. Loudspeakers blasting my favorite music Artists (G herbo, Khalid, Wiz Khalifa, among others) while having an old school southern reunion and BBQ. After the dancing and mingling settles, it is followed with peaceful vibes and mellow musics while all sitting back stress free from our daily lives surrounded by nature.

En drømmehelg MED basketball:
With basketball it is simply the highest form of competition… championship match. Final game, winner takes all. My team coming together to earn ourselves a championship shot and then playing to the best of our abilities and defeating our opponent. The cheers of the crowd the excitement of the teammates, the relief that you were awarded for your efforts finally, the moment an athlete lives for.

Norsk basketball – hva inspirerer deg:
Being a basketball player in Norway, I find it fun and welcoming how the league and fans create a “Buzz” around import players. They build a natural excitement from the players coming in from different countries but they not only are excited about what the player brings on the court, but they also are interested in the players backstory. They show genuine care in the imports as an asset to the league not just a tool for the sport.

Norsk basketball – hva frustrerer deg:
I don’t like that the league and country is not investing more care In the professional standards of the clubs. To have teams that have players who invest a lot of their personal time consistently, I feel that physio, the venues, and the media coverage would be a lot stronger. Being a relatively small fan base in a big country, to invest into these resources for a club can be detrimental to a clubs success and have a direct impact on key players health. A leagues is built on the back of its players so I feel like in order to promote growth these are a standard that should not waiver… if overall growth of the sport is the goal.
